This website has been created using valid CSS and XHTML 1.0 transitional markup.
Development is done primarily on my MacBook Pro running OS X. Coding is done by hand using Textmate. Photo editing is done through a combination of software: Lightroom to process and edit RAW files, iPhoto for JPEGs, and Photoshop for other image types and for more advanced editing. Prior to November, 2006, my workflow was on a Dell Latitude D400, using Windows XP, Editplus, Picasa and Photoshop. on a Mac OS X using EditPlus for editing.
This site uses WordPress 2.0 as a content-management mechanism, a powerful and flexible open-source platform.
I use a number of plugins to add to the default functionality of Wordpress:
- FAlbum : lets me display my flickr photos on my website in a simple and intuitive way. you can actually read more about why i like this plugin so much.
- Amazon Media Manager 1.5 : this is what lets me display the album and book covers on my website.. i’ve made some of my own modifications to this plugin as well, that i’ll be putting up soon on the software page.
- Exec-PHP : lets me run PHP scripts within Wordpress posts and pages - essential for parts of this site.
- Feedburner Feed Replacement : redirects Wordpress’s RSS feed to feedburner, which provides a much more intuitive interface for subscriptions, etc.
Copyright information is included on every page. For the most part, my work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.5 license though some items may have all rights reserved.

Version 2.0 of my website (the current one) has been created with both utility and design in mind. I did the redesign partially because the old site, while nice, consisted of a plain layout that was not flexible enough to accomodate the sheer variety of information I was putting on the site. The new version is meant to be extensible, flexible, and consistent all at once.
The site is hosted with Cartika Hosting since early February, 2006, and they seem to be a wonderful host so far. (The previous hosting service, Powweb, was far from acceptable).
I have maintained the domain name barunsingh.com since August of 2005.
